Don’t just post anything.Give it VALUE! 4 types of social media content that add value to your brand

Don’t just post anything. Give it value!

Whatever your social media goals are, the only thing that matters is that you bring value to your audience wherever you may post.

Brands often make the mistake of assuming that what’s valuable to them is also important to their audience, and they use their social platforms to broadcast and 🗣 “sell, sell, sell”, rather than considering what really matters to the people they're trying to reach.

Instead of using your social platforms to exclusively advertise your product or service, try to use them to join conversations that are currently happening in your community. Take cues from your audience. Listen to what your audience is talking about, read what influencers are writing, inform yourself on situations currently happening in your community and the world. Don’t be afraid to get involved in discussions and then pitch your content.

When you post bad content on your social media channels, you run the risk of overshadowing all the hard work you’ve put into building your presence, and establishing a connection with your audience online.

A good way to help guide you with posting content value would be the 5-3-2 rule. Which states that for every 10 posts you publish:

  • 5 should be curation, sharing others’ content

  • 3 should be content creation relevant to your audience that you’ve produced yourself

  • 2 should be personal, fun and relaxed content that makes your brand more relatable

Here are 4 of the most valuable types of social media content:

1. Infographic - The human brain tells us “reading is hard” and “looking” is easy. Data shared via infographics have the most potential to become viral. Infographics, are most the most engaging form of posts on social media today. The easier to understand, the more the engagement. We understand the content better when it’s paired with pictures, and that’s a proven fact!

2. More Interactive Content - “Content marketing is becoming less about the words you put on a page, and more about the experiences you create for the client.”

Are you seeing more questions as blog titles these days? Well, this is the perfect example of content going interactive. People love sharing their opinions, so why not post a survey or quiz? Both are a great two-way form of content. Users do something with it rather than just view it. Besides, who doesn’t love sharing their opinions or results.

3. Posts with emotional value get mote shares. If you truly want valuable social media activity, focus on emotion. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in this type if post can definitely engage your audience. Data shows happy emotions inspire people to share. No surprise here though, POSITIVE FEELINGS + POSITIVE POSTS = POSITIVE RATINGS and shares.

4. Content with images received 84% more double clicks than posts with just text in them. Which brings me back to the first point about Infographics. We’re all programmed the same. Adults and kids alike. The brain responds more favourably to pictures than text.

Remember it's all about your audience and finding a balance in the content you share. Try not to be about the hard sell and instead focus on content that is valuable, interesting and fun. You want to humanize your brand and get your audience interacting with you.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
